A toddler is no doubt the highest priority of the parents but still most of the newly made parents encounter many problems in taking care of their child due to the lack of knowlege about the safety and diet nutrition of their baby. A child’s diet plans should be very masterly designed to provide his body all the necessary vitamins, minerals, protiens and every other thing that contributes to his all round developement.
A baby diet chart for a baby of upto 1 year of age should be like –
UPTO 4 MONTHS : Breastfeeding is strictly recommended for the child as it will transfer all the necessary nutrition for his developement and to boost his immune system.
FROM 4-6 MONTHS : Single grain cereals. fortified cereals give your child iron, a very important nutrient. A baby is born with a natural reserve of iron which start depleting after 6 months of age.
FROM 6-8 MONTHS : Purried or strained fruits (banans, pears, apples, apricot, prunes). Wash all fresh fruits then bake , boil or steam untill soft. You can puree it in a blender or a food processor. Breast milk, water or baby formula must be added to it in the starting and as the baby gets used to solid food, amount of liquid should be decreased gradually. Same process could be done with vegetables (avocados, carrot, peas, potatoes).
FROM 8-10 MONTHS : Mashed fruits and potatoes without pureeing can be given to the baby. just cook the fruit or vegetable or mash the soft fruits like banana etc. Small amount of curd or cheese can be given but the cheese must be cut to small pieces. Eggs can also be feeded after scrambling or in small pieces.
FROM 10-12 MONTHS : The baby can now eat most of the food you eat now. It would be better if the food is boiled, mashed or in small pieces to avoid choking since the baby can not chew much upto this time. As the baby gets more teeths and learns how to chew he developes the ability to eat bigger pieces.
For a baby over 1 year solid food should be started in a manner that his body would response positively. From here onwards baby should be made ready to eat fruits and vegetables directly by mouth and slowly he will learn how to chew and eat the vegetables and fruits without cooking them. However, proper consultation with a doctor is always a must.
