Swine Flu in India

The unfortunate incident in Pune where a school girl died of Swine Flu has sent parents in frenzy. That was the first case of swine-flu death registered in India. Parents must be very cautious and careful about certain factors related to swine flu. You would not want your wonderful kids to be afflicted with this deadly disease. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), Swine Flu is currently at a phase 4 pandemic alert. Many people across the continents have been found affected with this disease. Since its outbreak in Mexico, it has spread to various other countries.

 

Parents must look out for certain signs that will need urgent medical attention. Symptoms like bluish skin color, fever with rash, trouble in breathing, unwilling to take enough fluids and returning of flu like symptoms will require immediate medical attention. Sore throat, body ache, vomiting, diarrhea etc have been found to be associated with swine flu.

 

Some of the essential steps that must be taken by concerned parents should include, covering nose and mouth with a tissue while coughing or sneezing. The tissue must be thrown in the trash after the use. Make sure the child washes his hands on regular interval. Hands must be washed with water and soap. Washing is very important in preventing this disease. It must be done before eating, after eating or after touching anything that is not clean. The bottom-line is hygiene factor should be the utmost priority. One can also use alcohol-based hands cleaners for better effects.

 

Keep a check on the kids whether they are frequently touching their eyes, mouth or nose. Teach them to avoid these steps as germs spread that way. Contact with sick people must be avoided. Most of the times, the influenza spreads because of close contact with sick people who are frequently coughing and sneezing. It will also be a good idea to get in touch with your child’s school and enquire about school’s plan for pandemic influenza. There is no better time than now to take the safety measures.
